COVINGTON, Ind. (CNS) — Riley Allen, 85, of Covington Route 1, died at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 18, 1974) at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He had been a patient for 11 days. Born March 5, 1889, near Cates, he was a son of Alonzo and Minnie Flowers Allen. He married Mamie L. Askren Dec. 31, 1912. She survives. Mr. Allen resided in Fulton Township more than 60 years. Before that, he lived in Marshall, Ill. He is a member of the Prairie Creek Baptist Church, Yeddo Lodge 36; Scottish Rite, Valley of Danville; Yeddo Chapter 313, Order of the Eastern Star; and the Parke County Low Twelve Club. He was a 50-year member of the Modern Woodman in Cates. Other survivors include three sons, James of Marshall, Ill., Vernell of Tyler, Tex., and Sammy of Covington Route 1; three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Lurlyne) Goekler of Marshall, Ill.; Mrs. Ralph (Rovene) Blizzard of Covington and Mrs. Frank (Alice) Barkley of Terre Haute; a sister, Mrs. Ada Callahan of Terre Haute; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Services will be at 2 p.m. (EST) Friday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Harry Hybarger will officiate. Burial will be in Coal Creek (Snoddy's) Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and Masonic rites will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. --waw
